About

One could say that sewing and creativity are in  my genes.  As a little girl, I remember watching  my mother sew pretty little white pajamas for me on her paddle powered Singer Machine.  As a teenager, I have very fond memories of all the beautiful dresses and outfits that my oldest sister lovingly sewed for me.  These articles of clothing are heirlooms that one day will be passed down to my lovely daughter.

My earliest memory of sewing was with my best friend, Dina, when I was in third grade.  Dina has always been super talented and creative.  To this day, Dina still sews unbelievably gorgeous dresses for herself and her 3 beautiful daughters.  In third grade, Dina and I would hand sew doll clothes out of remnants and scraps given to me by my oldest sister.

In middle school, I remembered taking a home economic/sewing class.  I loved being in this sewing class because it further sparked my creativity and love for sewing.  I  got a part time job in college and was able to save enough money to buy my first sewing machine at Costco.   I was able to save a bit of money in college by making my own clothes and refashioning the clothes I already owned.  After graduating college, I occasionally sew dresses and slacks for work.  When I moved to my first home, I find myself progressively sewing much more to decorate the place just as I like it. I would sew curtains, then pillow cushions, then bed spreads, to all match each other and to add elements that I love during the time such as lace, silk and  French toile patterned fabrics.

After 13 years of being a VP corporate Banking Officer, I retired from the bank position and began my most rewarding  job of all, being a mom.  I LOVE sewing for my daughter.  Before she was born, I made her entire nursery bedding and added the "flying pig" emblem everywhere to celebrate the fact that she was born in the year of the golden pig and that there is no limit to where she could go in life.    After her birth,  my passion for sewing grew as I find myself sewing much more frequently and it was always because I could not find what I had in mind for my daughter at the mall, weather it's a specialized travel pillow that would not cause her head to slump or that special dress for her photo shoot or silk bedding in the exact color to match her room with her name embroidered on the pillows or a beautiful headband to match her preschool uniform.  In fact, her headbands became the talk of the school and before you know it, I was under contract with the school to make several hundreds of various hair accessories for the school!    I have been told by many that I often want things that don't exist, but to me, it is just an opportunity to create exactly what it is that I wanted.

After learning that Ms. Colin of My Little Print Fabrics was planning to move back to France permanently, I approached her with my concept for my studio and we collaborated to bring you "Flying Pig Create Studio".  My journey has led me here!  I have had so much fun putting the studio together, from painting, fauxing the walls, decorating, conceptualizing and customizing the furniture to making all the fun projects for summer camps.  I hope that when you visit the studio, you will  feel welcomed and inspired.

I am so excited to be teaching the little ones (and older ones as well) and to inspire them to be creative and to think creatively.  I hope that when you visit the studio, you will feel welcomed and you will walk away feeling "sew" inspired.

Thank you for reading and visiting my site.
